On Saturday, March 3rd, South Carroll celebrated 50 years of growth and success with a rededication ceremony. Students, teachers, and administrators of the past and present were invited to witness speakers and performances from the music department and then take part in food and refreshments to reminisce on their time as a student and have a tour around the present building.

The jazz band, chorus, orchestra, and band played along side alumni with 3 songs each. The jazz band and band featured conductors that were past band directors, each of which gave a few words on their love for music education. Mr.Collins, an alumni both as a student and staff member led the jazz band and played with them and, at the conclusion of his performance, had great gratitude for the ability to come back for a day saying “thank you from the bottom of my heart”.

Past administrators sat on the stage as Mr.Reisberg led the ceremony and introduced them. Mr.King, the principal from 2006 to 2012, spoke about his time at the school and fondly shared that “It’s such a special place. These are just people who love this place,” and current principal Mrs.Cooper followed up with a story about her passing the large assortment of after school practices while leaving to go home after school one day. She shared, “I stopped for a moment and took it all in. I felt so much joy. That’s what it’s all about. That’s what high school is all about”. Each speaker revealed feelings of love and appreciation for not only the growth of the building in its size and upgrades but with the ever fluid student body. The building may be what unites us, but it’s the people that make South Carroll the wonderful place that generations of students and staff will remember forever.
