On the first day of the 2018 Olympic games in Pyeongchang, 17 year old snowboarder, Redmond Gerard won gold in the slope style event. Red became the first winter Olympic medalist born in the 2000’s, and the first American gold medalist in the 2018 winter Olympics. He also acquired the status of becoming the youngest American to medal in a snowboarding event at the Olympics.

Red grew up in Cleveland Ohio and Breckenridge, Colorado with his parents and 6 other siblings. A few years ago, Red and his brothers began building a backyard snow park, equipped with down bars, DIY jumps, and a rope tow. He would practice his snowboarding tricks and techniques almost every day because it was fun for him. when he was 12, he began competing in amateur competitions and by age 16, he won his first major title at the Grand Prix. Red will continue to compete for more titles, and hopefully reappear at the 2022 winter Olympic games in Beijing, China.
