No doubt about it the dogs are one of the most favored animals.  If you ask most people they have a dog or two at their house.  Here are ten facts about dogs that you probably didn’t know.

  1. Your dog is as smart as a two-year-old: There’s a reason why they get along well: they understand just about the same words and motions.
  2. dogs and cats drink the same way: They both bend their tongues backwards and raise the fluids to their mouths.
  3. Your dog does have a sense of time: Dogs know what its time for dinner or a walk based on the routine that they’ve picked up. They also have a sense of how much time has passed.
  4. One day for you is thirty days for them: This explains why your dog missed you so much even though you’ve only been gone for a day.  Because it feels like its been forever!
  5. Dog’s Whiskers help them navigate in the dark: Whiskers help pick up the changes in the wind, the size and speed of an object coming towards them, and if danger is closing in on them.
  6. Dog’s only have sweat glands in their paws:  They are found between their paw pads.
  7. A one-year-old puppy is as physically mature as a 15-year-old human:  Different breeds age a little differently. Large dogs age faster than small ones.
  8. Your dogs smell is 1,000 to 1 million times better than yours: Depending on the breed, your dog has between 125 million to 300 million scent glands. There’s only 5 million for humans. And the part of your dog’s brain that controls smell is 40 times larger than yours, even though the canine brain is much smaller than the human brain.
  9. Dogs can hear 4 times as far as humans: Puppies are born deaf but they quickly exceed our hearing abilities.
  10. Your dog can smell your feelings: Dog’s can pick up on little changes in your scent, which helps them figure out how you are feeling.  Such as smelling your sweat when you’re nervous or have fear. It’s also likely how dogs can detect certain diseases or know that a household member is pregnant.
