Winter is approaching and temperatures at dropping fast. I’d say it’s about time to put away the shorts and sandals and bring out the sweaters and fuzzy socks. Don’t give up hope on remaining fashionable just because it’s cold outside. Try to resist putting on that huge hoodie, leggings, and your Uggs everyday in attempt to keep out the cold. My main tip to staying warm and fashionable during the cold seasons is to layer up! I’m sure you hear this all the time, but how exactly do you layer your clothing?

(1) Start with a skin tight layer.

Under almost everything, wear a long sleeve shirt and a pair of leggings or tights. This is probably the easiest way to layer, because you can wear both of these things under almost all of your outfits. I say almost because sometimes there are cutouts or different necklines to tops that will reveal the multiple layers underneath. They harbor in warmth and you can’t even see them, since they’re under your actual outfit. If you want, you can even wear a camisole underneath the long sleeve for even more warmth.

(2) Puffer Coats

I remember when I was in elementary school my mom used to make me wear a puffer coat to school every day when it was cold outside I absolutely hated them and felt kind of self-conscious because none of the other kids’ mothers would make them wear them. Now, I actually really like puffer coats and will continue to wear them whenever it is cold outside because they are so warm. Puffer coats have actually become a pretty big trend this season, especially because of that meme of Kendall Jenner wearing a huge red puffer coat.

(3) Leggings

Leggings are essential during the cold months. They are another form of a skin-tight layer that will help to insulate heat. You can wear get a pair of fleece-lined leggings and wear them by themselves or you can wear a regular pair of leggings under a loose pair of pants (make sure they are not visible of course).

(4) Turtleneck Sweaters

Turtlenecks have been very fashionable this season and are a great way to keep your neck warm without needing to wear a scarf. Sometimes scarves can get kind of itchy and hard to match with other tops, but turtlenecks can serve as your top and your “scarf” all in one. Since they’re tighter around your neck, this will also help to store heat.

I only recently learned of wearing a skin-tight layer underneath a top and it helped to keep me so much warmer. You can even combine some of the tips and wear a skin tight top underneath of your turtleneck sweater and wear a puffer coat sweater with it. Remember that fashion is a way for you to express yourself, but hopefully these tips help you to maintain your fashionable outfit, but not freeze to death while you’re in it.
