Lexi Winkler competes in the 300-meter dash during the PG County Winter Festival Track Meet.

On Saturday, December 15th, the South Carroll Track and Field Team traveled to PG County for a day-long meet. The team arrived at the complex around 7:30 am, and didn’t leave until roughly 8:30 pm. There were 80 teams competing in the meet, which contributed greatly to its abnormal length. Many of the events consisted of over 100 competitors, which made each event extremely competitive. For the girls, Grace Fipps managed to place the highest of anyone on the team when she got 2nd in pole vault. Brooke Flanigan made it to hurdle finals, where she placed 9th overall. Megan O’Neill and Lexi Winkler both ran seasonal personal records in the 500-meter dash and the 300-meter dash. “I was happy with how I ran, and look to improve even more during the next meet” said Winkler, following her race. For the boys, Patrick Tunkel placed 3rd in pole vault and Jason Cave got a seasonal personal record in the mile run. The team has their next invitational on Friday, December 21st at the same venue. Be sure to wish them all luck before the holidays!
