Olympic Gymnast Simone Biles Breaks a World Record

After her performances on the High Beam and Floor Routine, 22-year-old Simone Biles added 2 more gold medals to her collection, officially breaking the previous world record for most medals, now at 25 medals. The record was previously held by Vitaly Scherbo, a Belarusian gymnast with 23 medals.

Biles has her flawless performance on the balance beam to thank, as well as an intensely difficult floor performance, earning 15.066 and 15.133 respectively.

Biles also participated in the 2016 Rio Olympics, earning 4 gold medals for her hard work at 19 years old. And, despite an often the often-short career of a female gymnast, Biles will be competing in the 2020 Tokyo games. Biles aims to earn a gold for the balance beam next year, an award that evaded her in the previous Olympics.

Biles has proven to be one of the greatest gymnasts of our time, possibly the best now. She’s officially broken records and is getting the rare opportunity to participate in her second Olympics. Time will only tell what medals she will earn, but it looks promising for the athlete.
